Noryoyoyoko originally started during the reign of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, when the Sanjo and Gojo bridges were rebuilt and the riverbanks of the Kamo River became crowded with spectators and peddlers, which in turn led wealthy merchants to set up seats for spectators and tea stores.
The pale purple of the base color is reminiscent of the sky at sunset, and the playful pink color represents the magic hour or the lights of the Noryo alcove.
