The nights in Shanghai never get pitch black. There are too many lights in the streets which sparkle through the nightsky.
But at midnight a lot of decorationlights on buildings used to get off power in the time we visited the city, due to save energy. This has been so surprising: watching the pink-purple-turquoise-yellow skyline and suddenly dark. Midnight sky is on.
